Here at Girls in the Beauty Department, we talk a lot about bad bridesmaid hair (examples: my recent curl helmet, and Beth's braids-on-crack updo). One always enters the salon with high hopes and a handful of carefully chosen magazine photos, only to exit with a standard-issue formation of heavily sprayed curls and "tendrils" (shudder). Well, take a look at Kristen Bell's hair here. I think her updo is everything those bad bridesmaid updos wish they could be.
Here's her updo, which she wore to the premiere of "The Hangover".
Now let's take a closer look at her hairline. I just love how the curls are gently, subtly twisted back and pinned to create a soft effect. So much better than hair that's been stiffly combed and sprayed back.
Finally, here's a profile shot. You'll see here that as with bad bridesmaid hair, Kristen's has been swept into a high mass of hairpinned curls, yet it's not too bulbous a mass. The fact that the swoops are kept close to her head and allowed to gently ripple across the top makes all the difference, I think.
